I "know" plenty of emos, and I have to say, they offend me in a way. First off, for those who are in the dark as to what an "emo" is, goths are usually confused with emos because of the way they dress. BUT THEY'RE VERY DIFFERENT!! Let me put it this way...goths listen to Korn and Marylin Manson. Emos listen to My Chemical Romance (can't stand them, BTW...>_<). Emos copied their fashion from the goths, I'm convinced.

Second, and Jessi, I don't know the people you do, but from all of the emos I've seen, they complain about everything, do nothing to fix it, and think the world is a horrible place. Yet they know very little of true hardship. If anyone has the "right" to be emo, its a CFer. Not that they should be, but I find it rather laughable when an emo tells me they're depressed and they want to kill/cut/disfigure themselves because someone dumped them. "Try having a terminal illness," is my reply. "Try having an actual reason to be perpetually angry and depressed."

If you couldn't tell, they're not my favorite bunch...but my high school was chalk full of 'em, princess95. You could pretty much take your pick...<img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-disgusted.gif" border="0">

someone who i would classify as emo once left a packet of anti depressants in my car. who the hell loses a packet of anti depressants? who keeps a whole packet on them anyway? talk about screaming "hey everyone look at moi im depressed!". emos are just one of the many reasons why i dont give a toss about the punk scene anymore. they have ruined it. no one can have fun, wear colours or look classy without being glared at. next time i go to a gig i am going to wear a bright, classy, girly outfit and overload their brains.

I posted a blog about Goth's/EMO's called "Pierced and Tatooed". I think it is a stage of emotional developement, and a need for attention, no matter whether it is negative or not--some just take longer. It is so hard to not judge people, and I find that I am not as tolerant as I used to be, it's a struggle, and I have to watch out that my thoughts don't come out of my mouth! I know that I would freak if my daughter's brought one home! And that's an awful thing to do.

Who ISN'T "emo" at that age???
And who ever is making fun of them needs to gain some compassion.
Having emotional issues is SERIOUS, not something to laugh at.
There is no such thing as "acting out for attention only"
If they are acting out, it's because they are going through a lot of chit on the inside and need help. To laugh, point and snicker, just makes matters worse and their blood could be on your hands.

Now, I don't know extend of the way you all are using the term "emo" but if it's simply a person that has some emotional issues, then thank God that isn't you - if you haven't been there, you don't know, and I think it's immature to not take their mental anguish seriously, to not have compassion for their plight.

Reach out to them and be their friend, help them help themselves to seek proper mental health, whether that be counseling or meds.

I take emotional issues seriously. If you don't then you are probably emo yourself - only someone emo can't reach out
