(((((Tonya))))) Hugs to you, a heartbreaking story about your Mom.

Very interesting that the majority of us here are what I call hand-picked. Of course, many of us have those long lost realtives from the past that we will just never know.

He he, sometimes I feel like the little green alien in Toy Story. The one in the toy machine at Pizza Port, being lifted out by the mechanical arm, ooooooooo I'm the chosen one . . . .

when i was dx'd, my dad had never heard of cf. when he told his mother the news, she went ballistic, fearful that she may never get to know her grandson.

it turned out that my dad had a cousin that was born with cf. this would have been circa 1955 (year my dad was born). this unfortunate cystic never had a fighting chance as his battle was lost before he had learned to walk.

it is almost certain that i inherited one of those cursed genes, but as far as my mother's side is concerned, no known family history of cf.

Out of the 5 kids in my immediate family, the oldest girl and youngest (me!) had CF.
I know of cousins on both sides of the family w/ CF also.

I was in contact with one of my cousins (mom's side) until he went off to college a few years ago and we lost contact. He's still around, though.

Finding out about the other cousin was a weird thing...she was talking to my mom at the CF Clinic years ago & was talking about how she had recently learned that she was adopted. She had a mild case of CF and was just showing symptoms of CF in her late 20s/early 30s. They were asking her about family history, trying to narrow down what could be wrong with her, etc.. It was then that her mom informed her that she was adopted.
The story was that her biological parents put her up for adoption because she had older biological brothers & the dad was abusive to them & her mom was not about to put a girl through this, so they adopted her out right away, not even knowing that she had CF. Mom asked her what her biological last name was & what do you know....it was our last name! She was a very distant cousin on my dad's side, but I did not know her parents and I'm not even sure if dad did either.
