Family history of CF

My dad's counsin's daughter had CF, she passed away at 15 after an unsuccessful lower lobe transplant. My brother was the first CFer on either side of the family that we know of for sure, then me, then the second cousin. Only one of my relatives has ever been tested to see of they are a carrier, my mom's youngest sister, and she is. That's all we know for sure.

ah, genetics genealogy! I have been trying to find CF in my family for a few years now. My parents were adults before antibiotics became available and at a time when many babies and young children died from infections - was it CF, I wonder? Can't tell. Don't even have my parents anymore for genetic testing to satisfy my own curiosity.
*** Something interesting I found out. My paternal great grandfather died from typhoid fever at the age of 29. His wife and their living children, ages 4 and 2 survived; she had a baby a few weeks after her husband died. So, I've read that having a CF mutation protects people from typhoid fever so I am guess that this great grandmother passed me one of my mutations. Have any of you read about that?
***I have four older siblings, none with CF and no one has had any testing done.
