How often do you sterilize nebs?

Hahahaha... you caught me... I wondered the same thing as soon as I typed it, but I was in a hurry and didn't want to put any more thought into it :)

Ok, now I'll have to go check out the manufacturer information and talk to the nurses again :)</end quote></div>

No "catching" here. We're all in this game together in hopes that all CF patients live longer, healthier, more productive lives <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

I also boil Reeces' nebs after each use. He has enough where I just need to boil them 2x a day. I was wondering about how to disenfect the spacer..I thought you could NOT boil that. Will just hot water & soap be enough?

About the hosptial visits & nebs...... all the RTs I talked to said that they change them everyday, & they said they did NOT mix the Pulmozyme with anything else....BULL cuz I saw them use the same neb cup with Albeutrol then put the Pulmo in the same cup! So now I throw away the cups after they leave....after all he does use a neb cup atleast 3x a day...4 when hes in the hosptial. And if he was at home they wouldnt be getting used over & over, so why should I let them get away with it there.

Hey guys, I also boil after every use I am a germ freak, meaning I am scared to death of them for my daughter. I do have a question if someone could help me, my little girl has always used the face mask because I feel like it is good to get the meds in the sinused too, but I started using a mouth piece just recently because she saw it in a book, I bought nose plugs so she would breath through her mouth and not her nose, but of couse she hates the nose plug, it is like what the swimmers wear. Do you guys have any suggestions or do you think it is a waste of time to try and worry about her nose, it just seems logical to me. Thanks, Christa mom of Maci 4 wcf

I also boil mine everday- I have 8 nebs, and am doing 4 treatments 2x/day, so I am boiling once a day. I also use vinegar and water to soak mine if they get build up on them, then boil them. If I'm running late and have forgotten to boil them earlier, I wash and boil them and then dry them with the blow dryer.

After I melted a half dozen of them one time because I forgot to set the timer, I put a lid on the pot while it's boiling. It boils faster with a lid, and it buys me some time if I forget to set the timer (again). It takes 17 minutes. 7 for my big pot to begin boiling, and then the 10 to sterilize.

We still use the bubbles the fish mask. We do have a nose plug that came with the tobi, but DS was only a teeny tiny baby when we started it and when I asked the doctor how do we get him to use the mouth piece and nose plug on him -- he said not to worry about it. He actually LIKES the nose plug -- it's not tight at all and doesn't seem to mind using the mouth piece and plug from time to time. I'd say if she hates the nose plug, keep using the mask. And maybe check with your doctor or RT to see if you can get one of the nose plugs that comes in the Tobi/Pari neb cup kit.

-- it is wonderful !! we just wash as usual and stick them in there and it dries and sanitizes at the same time -- we don't have to worry about drying them in the open air with paper towels on top anymore.</end quote></div>

I want to thank you for recommending this product. I still sterilize my nebs in the microwave because that is an approved way to kill the cf bugs but I use this germ guardian to dry the nebs afterwards. It is wonderful and worth every penny. No more lying my many neb pieces out on paper towels to dry overnight. In 30 minutes all my nebs are completely dry. I was able to buy it for $49.99 on Amazon. I just wanted to say thanks Alyssa for posting this product.
