I'm a respiratory student and most of the patients that I encountered have cf; some are negative about theirselves and some are just happy to be alive. If ever i get pregnant and i discover that my baby will have cf, there is no way that i would give up my baby. Everybody deserves to live and be happy. it is not my baby's fault that she/he has cf and it is not a death sentence too... i will just show my love, support and although it is hard, i know nothing is impossible with the GOD!!!

Nope, I wouldn't. I actually dumped a high risk ob/gyn at the consultation stage because when it came up and I told her I wouldn't, she said that we could decide that if it came about (and gave me a speech about how lots of other cfers aren't as healthy as me -must mean I'm an idiot about my own disease, I guess- and have done it so their child wouldn't suffer like they did). Helloooo! I already said no!

I didn't trust her to have my or my future child's ultimate best interest at heart (since it inferred to me that my life wasn't as important or as worth living or fighting for as a "healthy" person in her eyes, and neither would my child's be if she/he had cf), nor did I believe that she would listen to me and not dismiss my other concerns I might have along the way.

Sorry, that got a little off topic, but that's my (small) experience...

Just because someone discourages bringing more CF children into the world does not mean they are saying you aren't worth as much as "normal" people. I would, in fact, argue quite the opposite. If someone enjoyed watching you suffer, they'd suggest having more CF children. If they see you suffering and don't like it, they are more likely to discourage it.

Edited to add: I am not saying a person should or shouldn't abort a CF fetus, I am merely responding to a reply a few before mine.

No, I would give him/her a fair chance at life, not all CF patients are doomed to death at childhood, many live long healthy lives. And even if I knew it was a serious case of CF I wouldnt, I personally dont believe in abortion for any reason. I believe a fetus is a human being and abortion stops a beating heart. Now if I knew my baby was going to have CF and I could genetically modify him/her to remove the gene, I would most likley do that.
