Is there any Financial help?

Yes I am interested. But does he have to be a certain age or what. He is only 6 years old. I would just like to get things in place for him so it wont be as difficult when he gets older. I know we have custody of him until he turns 18 but alot of things could happen between now and then.

We helped his biological mother try and to obtain SSI when she was living with us and had custody. And then she never followed through. So when we received custody we tried and was turned down.

I also contacted an attorney about this and they said basically the same thing that SSI told us. If they dont have any limitations they don't qualify.

my children are both on ssi which qualifes them for medicaid. i make too much for them to qualify otherwise. i understand your concern about not wanting a hand out. i felt and still feel the same way. there are alot of people who abuse it, but for those who need it, it is wonderful. we applied for them for ssi and got turned down. we had to go to a lawyer who specializes in ssi cases. and it didnt cost us anything. it took about a year for it all to go through but it was wrth it. we met with the lawyer once, and then just mailed them copies of discharge papers and stuff now and then, and they did everything else. if ssi owes you back pay, then they get like ten percent of the back pay. but we didnt have any back pay coming, so the lawyers didnt charge us anything.
if you go to a cf clinic, there should be a social worker there who can get you in contact with all you need to know.
