iam glad you have posted this issue

i in many ways am in exactly the same postion as you, since as long as i can rememebr ive had it rammed down my throat 24/7 to do physio and exercise, iam now in my middles 20s and have had enough and gone a rebellion streak doing very little in regards to my health ,ive been going out with friends partying enjoying the odd spliff ,and generally not giving a toss about my treatment,as i have been practically 100% compliant for so long,

it depends what angle you want to look at it from though,on one hand if ya do slip up with ya treatments chances are you may have to go into hospital a lot more for ivs etc etc and this obviously has implications for your family and loved ones,
i think the key is to strike a balance(something which i myself have to find) between living and also being compliant with cf,
as hard as this may be for some poople to take on this site who are pretty much compliant i feel a day off a month of all medicines physio etc will do someone a lot of good as they can actually have a break from this shitty disease and all the treatments and time that goes into looking after yaself

after all as someone very rightly pointed out a while back we cannot be a slave to this disease

Ricky123: I see your point, and I agree with your general emotions regarding your disease. Here is the thing though. Barring all religious bias, from what we know, it is ALWAYS better to be alive than dead. If you are compliant and take care of yourself like you should you WILL live longer. If you go a step further and do more than just be compliant with your care beyond the perceived minimum...You will more than likely live even longer. None of this is of course guaranteed. Mutations, diet, general non CF health, support circles, all play a huge part in CF longevity. But one thing IS guaranteed: If you blow off your care and "Do very little regarding your health", you *WILL* die much younger than those who are compliant.

You could have someone like myself who most would consider "mild" CF wise. VS someone who has a more aggressive level of the disease...And if the person with the more aggressive level of disease complies with their care, and I blow mine off and don't care...I will drastically lose my advantage and quickly go from "mild" to "moderate" to "severe", to "death". And more than likely, that person with the stronger disease will probably outlive me.

Do yourself a huge favor now, and don't fall into that mindset. You are young now, and like many of us you are sick of your never ending treatment regimen. But trust me on this one (and I know), it's endlessly better to be compliant now, retain lung function and health as long as you can and hope for the best...Than to dive into apathy and die quick and have marginal fun.

The secret to a general state of happiness with this disease is to aggressively take care of yourself, but also have some fun. Continue to do all your meds/therapy/exercise/proper diet/supplements...And to have fun, do what you want within reason inbetween. I don't drink anywhere near what I used to. Now, I take care of myself to an insane level during the week and on the weekends. But on the weekends, I drink some beer and have fun with friends, and play some paintball/socialize.

I am extremely happy. You don't have to throw away your care, and in turn your lifespan in order to enjoy life.

hi Kate,

These guys are right and they are your friends. You can come on here visit the site and check out the forum you want and you will get tips.

Close your eyes and envisage your dreams. "Your dreams are to be well/compilant and to get married and have babies. You know what Kate you will complete all your dreams I promise you. But will you be well when you are going through your dreams to enjoy them is another thing.

I was dx's at 33yrs of age it turned my world upside down and I wanted to run fast very, very fast. I reckon the faster I ran CF wouldn't catch me. I'll prentend I haven't got it was another thing I went through. The more uncompliant I ws the more I got sick. I needed Iv'S FOUR to FIVE times in a year.
It didn't matter what people said to me I HAD to be the one to decided I CAN do this and live with CF. Fit it into my life and I knew the only way was to do my Meds and be compliant. There is occassionaly in a while I might miss a day to spend with friends or an event or to have time for ME but that is ok. Im back on my meds the next day

I hope to have ababy this year and for the last year until now I got my body ready and MY FEV1's are 89%. I had my gallbladder removed last year (and another operations) which I had planned because it was acting up. I DO my meds twice a day exercise three times a week and got the vest.

Im ready to take on the world learn new things and live my dreams and be well when I am living them. If I get pregnant I want to be around for my baby and be healthy through my pregnancy the best I can.

I went to therapy for a while because it helped me to talk to someone a part from my fiance and family, friends. Maybe talking to someone or just visit the site will help you sweetheart.
Im on this site over a year and I would be absoultely lost with out these guys some have emailed you.
Just give it ago visit the site and talk to us we might be able to help you.

Now have a nice weekend and don't be to hard on your self. It will happen for you. You will wake up one morning and it will fall into place as simple as that. But it has to come from you and nobody else. Think of being compliant less IV's, feeling Well not being sick just the thoughts of it must make u feel I want that. Anyway keeps us posted. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

You don't have to throw away your care, and in turn your lifespan in order to enjoy life.</end quote></div>

thanks for your input
