emily thanx I hadn't found any specific gene on what i pm'd you about. But you helped I am going to e-mail them to me cousin her 7yr old weighs 30lbs. But hey look nobody has said anything bad about your post. well since I started typing. I still think your right. I plan on letting my kids do as they wish with their health as soon as they are old enough. I have to get them to where they're responsible. If the time ever comes that is up to them. I just wish that my familly felt this way. My g-ma has cancer she made her wishes on this clear years ago. But they wouldn't leave her alone and she went against her wishes to please others. Now the dr's won't do anymore chemo. All it managed to do was make her upset w/herself and get me asked not to bring my kids around.

Great post Emily. The funny thing is, i was going to blog about something similar only yesterday. A few things (slightly different angle here) that I think are:

It annoys (really annoys me) when people say "I knew he/she would do it, they are SUCH fighters, they are SO strong, they defied medics'' etc. I don't know about anybody, but in my tx situation, I wasn't even aware I was 'fighting', my body just reacted. I will admit I am a fiercly determined person, but I can't help what my body chooses to do. In the same hand, to say 'Oh wow x is SUCH a fighter, I KNEW they'd come through' completely takes away from pwcf who have died. Were they not fighters? Were they not strong? It borders on insenstivity if you ask me.

And finally, something a mom of a child with cancer once said, "I was told the kindest and most loving thing I could do for my daughter was to let her go."

If someone is living their life for someone else then what is the point? I think you MUST MUST let the sick/dying person go if they want to go. Otherwise they aren't living for themselves, but pushing themselves beyond their comfortable limit and doing it for the wrong reasons.

I have discussed that many times before as well, Shammy. Saying stuff like you posted is a terrible way of looking at it. Because then it turns into "well, if person X lived because they were such a fighter, then person Y must have died because they didn't give a damn" and as we know, that's pure garbage. A lot of it is just what hand you were dealt, what bacteria you grow, how close a match the lungs were (if tx is part of the equation) etc etc etc. There's so much to it. And while a fighting spirit does help, it doesn't make you immune to death. Many people with fighting spirits have died because a spirit isn't going to save you if CF decides it wants to kick your ass.

Shammy??? *chuckle*

And I know that me and you (or me and someone) have had the debate over positivity and all that, which I still stick to, that positivity DOES and CAN help, but this 'fighting, inspiration, defying medics, strength (when unconcious or REALLY ill)' does my head in. *bashes head off wall*
