Seriously, if she left her baby out there when she was "scared". Whatever, she wasnt scared and if she was she is an unfit mother.

When I was younger we had a really good dog... anyways we lived on a busy road and a car started barking and honking at him and he ran after them then another car comming hit our dog and injured him. She had the gall to come back and try to sue us because "our dog hit her car". Cops took our side though cause she was such a looney.

Good luck on everything. I'm sure there end up throughing it out if you go to court.

Kylie,

hmmm I'm confused with your statement that your dog learned to fight the halti, dogs usually fight the halti when it is initially put on them, and those particular dogs are the ones that need it more!. You have various brands on the market that are all very similar, you have the black dog wear halter, you have the original head halti, and you have gentle leaders, figure 8 and a hell of a lot more. My preference is toward the gentle leaders....but that said I have put dogs in both brands and found them to work better in one particular brand... its all about the dog.... Did you have your dog professionally fitted with the halter? If You felt that there was enormous pressure on the snout, then either it was not correctly fitted (which is what I am leaning to) or you weren't using it correctly, again if sores weren't far from developing then it wasn't fitted correctly

Halter are not just for soft dogs as you have indicated, I have fitted them on Neapolitan mastiffs, GSD, huskies, malamutes, bull terriers, Mastiffs, great Danes, you name it I have fitted it. I have seen some dogs that pretty much just don't even know they are wearing it, to dogs that will initially fight it....and the dogs I have seen fight it do not do so for long....

For all the people that believe that it was the small dogs fault due to being attacked in the past I sincerely beg to differ, again I have not seen the dog, but dogs being a predatory animal do not sit and look up a reference to see if what they are attacking is in fact a dog, usually if it moves then its fair game. most of your small fluffies resemble prey, like a rabbit. The small dog may have infact been at fault, but based on the very little information that is at hand you a merely speculating <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0"> Again the small dog was in its own yard to begin with.... according to Julie, she fell into the woman's yard when she tripped and let go of the leads, which indicates the dog was in its yard when her dogs got away...

As for the mother being neglectful, she also acted in a split second and the child in question was not being chased around the house, the dog was. Again I wasn't there I am just going from what I have read. Might not have been the right thing to do, but what may have seemed to like hours to take place was probably over in a couple of minutes....Two dogs having a tug a war on a small dog is not pretty......Your just lucky your dogs didn't kill fluffy intentionally or un-intentionally or your ticket would seem mild compared to having to have your dogs destroyed for being dangerous.....

You live and learn by mistakes, as we all do, and as you said, the dogs are left at home unless you have someone else to manage them <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

Hey Hannah, how are you??? We miss you guys. Funny how we only met once but man did we hit it off!
Did you get my last email? The offer is still there, I hope you take us up on it! It will be crowded but fun!

I'll keep everyone posted on how it goes, my court case isn't until may... the 18th I think.

I just have to wonder, if this had started at a park or something, who would be found at fault. Is it simply because my dogs stepped on her property, even though it escelated onto the sidewalk and then back ont her lawn and driveway, and HER dog came charging at MY dogs, not the other way around. Am I getting the short end of the stick here because I have the "big" dogs? I mean, small dogs can be vicious too. HER dog came after MY dogs and then they all started chasing eachother around. It probably wouldn't have been so bad if she hadn't joined in SCREAMING after all of them. It was acutally comical, even at the time. I was shocked I fell, but the dogs were just having fun.

I think she was just pissed because I called her out as a bad mother for leaving her kid on the porch, that's when things got ugly. But I was seriously dumbfounded by that action, or rather lack of action!

And why would I, in my right mind, after such yearning for my children, (although I guess she doesn't know this part) keep a dangerous dog in my house? I'd have to be nuts and I'm not. If he went after HER, or the baby, I could see calling the cops, but chasing another animal.... I think she was just mad at my bad mother comment.

Oh well, I'll keep everyone posted.

Just want to add that even though your dog is on your property you are still required to have your dog under control. Since little fluffy wasn't on a leash nor was the yard fenced to keep the dog in, "ms. big dog hater" is actually considered more at fault than Julie who had every right to walk her dogs on the sidewalk without being charged at by fluffy.

Unless you have studied canine body language then you are not in the position to say that they were Just having fun....

Owners always want to protect their dogs, but serious, if I owned a small dog and two dogs were in my yard doing what I thought was an attack then you would get your dog back in a body bag *shrugs*

Isnt't it hypocrital to say that she only called the cops because of your comments on her mothering skills, yet you suggested your willing to call CPS on her for being a neglectful mother based on heresay and opinion.

Sorry Julie, but you are just making excuses. Pay the ticket, you were in the wrong, she may have been also in the wrong, but at the end of the day your dogs were still on her property first, and her dog is entitled to protect its property by barking, it's what ALL dogs do!

If you want to go saying what should have been done, yadda yadda ya, then your mother should have been the one handling the dogs, not you.....

You are not being victimized because you own large breeds, you're just being pissy because you got a ticket

We clearly don't agree on this, and that's ok <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0"> but I didn't know if you saw this part that I posted:

<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>I wasn't really serious about the CPS thing, I mean, it was a thought because I'm so freaking pissed at this nutso, but It woudn't be worth my time or energy and it would clearly be retaliatory. I will however use the "she left her child on the porch, how scared could she have been???" defense in court. </end quote></div> I'm just ticked and was venting. I wouldn't *really* waste my time doing this, it was just a retaliatory thought.

I don't get the hypoctitical part though, Sure, she seemed to be upset, apparently according to what she told the officer, her dog had been attacked before by neighborhood dogs (didn't get the details) so I can see why she might be scared. But if that had happened to you, wouldn't you make sure your dog was always on a leash? Seems to me she didn't learn HER lesson the first time.

And yes, I do think that I'm partially being victimized because I own large breeds, and large breeds who have a bad rep. unfortunately. But I also do have my accountability in letting go of the leash.

you said in your first post the leash was attached she just didnt have hold of it, so the lead was on her dog....

again the dog was still in it's yard when your dogs took chase.....

and you still had to drag your dogs out from her yard....

Just remember at the end of the day your dogs are going to be the ones to suffer....

Yes big dogs do come with labels but it's because the ones who own the large breeds generally dont take into consideration size, strength and are sometimes irresponsible... It's never the dogs fault, its the person who owns the dog that is at fault and when it comes to big dogs then one needs to always be a step ahead.....

There are no bad dogs, just poorly trained dogs, and who trains the dogs? People!

It would be like taking a sight hound (greyhound) to an off leash area and then say my dog is gentle at home and wouldnt hurt a flea, but it just ripped fluffy into a hundred pieces because sight hounds are bred to chase and kill... again owner responsibility... there was a incident that involved 3 racing greyhounds at an offleash beach who ripped up a small fluffy dog, who was at fault, the beach was an offleash area, so fluffy had just as much right as the greyhounds, but the greyhounds were racing dogs who should have been muzzled and under sufficient control....and they obviously weren't...no compensation for the owners of the little fluffy dog who watched 3 dogs tear their dog up in front of them....
