Thank you for all of the responses!!

Jane, I completely understand what you are talking about having to keep all the junk in the house. We keep a ton of it for Courtney and sometimes it is just to hard to resist!!

I think what I am going to do is start a weekly blog that we can all use if we want. I will be the first brave sole to put my height and weight, and how much I want to lose. I will keep track of my excerise, and post it weekly. Each Friday I will state my weight, how much/ if I lost any weight, etc.

I hope others will join in with me!! It will be nice to be able to support each other.

THANKS!!

Seana

I know exactly what you're talking about! I'm always trying to get Monique to put on weight but in the process I get to snack too much and eat all the wrong things.

The only time I lose weight is when Monique is in hospital because I'm too lazy to make food for myself only. This doesn't help much though because Monique hasn't needed to go to hospital for a few years.

Hi Seana -
I'm a mom to a 9 yr old cfer. I posted yesterday about my weight problem on another post. I think I need to lose about 50 pounds to be where I would like to be. I just can't seem to get motivated. We started an addition on our house and I think the realization of his disease really hit me this last year (I've been coming to this site since Feb - I think it was a real eye opener) So with all the stress and lack of time it's hard. When I went to a doc apointment last week I realized I've put on about 18 pounds since last year - yikes - no wonder I needed new pants this summer. I need to quit blaming it on stress and depression and work hard to get it back off. I walk 2 1/2 miles every morning - but I do eat too much junk. I can tell my daughter has gained too - I just wish I had more time at night to walk.

I love to walk but with work, supper, dishes, HOMEWORK, and treatments - it's very hard - and oh yeah we own a business too so always paperwork to do. I would like to read your post and maybe chime into the contest - don't know if I want to tell my weight - YIKES it scares me. I gained like this after Tanner was born too. Then started walking a year or so later and lost 35 pounds - did good keeping off until this last year. And then he has to have polyp sinus surgery again in a couple of weeks - always something going on! So he's been alittle more depressed about everthing too.
If nothing else it was good to vent!!

I think the idea behind losing weight is great, but don't you dare go on a 'diet' because any weight lost on a diet is easily put back on. You need a balanced food regeime, Has Courtney got a dietician, if she has she/he could help you with a balanced diet.
As for exercise, you shouldn't need to be able to run a marathon after this, a little exercise should work wonders, a little swim or walking will be enough.
I used to sit around the 12stone mark now I am pushing 16 stone, but occaisionally loose some,

1 stone = 16pounds

I've always struggled with my weight. As I get older I notice it's harder and harder to lose weight. I used to be able to drop major poundage just by increasing my fruit and veggie intake, cut out breads & pasta, drink more water. Much much harder these days! We're not big junk food eaters -- rarely have chips in the house. We eat fairly well -- fresh fruits, veggies, low fat meats, but I LOVE sweets -- candy, desserts, chocolate, ice cream... So before ds was born, I would "walk to eat chocolate and drink beer". I walked for an hour every day and managed to keep the weight off.

We have a separate cupboard for DS's snacks, so out of sight, out of mind. Instead of buying big bags of chips, cheetos -- I buy the little individual bags. If it's not open, I'm not tempted. Ditto with little cups of ice cream. I'm not as tempted to get into the icecream.

So basically, the first thing I need to do is to start exercising again. Set up a regular schedule.

Count me IN! Great idea!!!!!

I have always had a weight problem...either overweight...or under. I have a hypothyroid and it caused total havoc on my body during both pregnancies! It would always be VERY under active while pregnant and I would gain VERY easily. (I'm sure the constant craving for sweets didn't help either...LOL!)

I had been really into working out and being healthy before and after the kids were born, but once Ethan was diagnosed...I just didn't care anymore. I wanted something to comfort me...so....food did the trick. Plus, I didn't take my thyroid medicine and so, with both of those...I gained 30 lbs right after his diagnosis. Plus, I hadn't even lost the pregnance weight.

So...again...I'm alllll for it! I've been taking my medicine for about 2 months now (like a good girl) and have lost 17 lbs....and that's without much dieting or exercise! Imagine if I tried <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-sad.gif" border="0">
