So the middle class and upper class should be punished because there are people without health care. I'm sorry but I just don't want socialized medicine.

I agree health care is a major problem in the United States, but socialized medicine is not the answer.

And yes you may get emergency care in Canada, but that doesn't include treatment for cancer. If you have cancer you need treatment fast and that doesn't always happen in Canada.</end quote></div>

I would like to hear from someone who lives in Canada as to whether they wait for chemo. Would any of you Canadians like to respond. Also, I was part of the upper middle class without insurance until the age of 24 because my father had the audacity to pursue the American dream and be self-employed. They would not cover my condition. This is not a "lower class" problem in this country!!!!! This is cutting across classes!! One of the biggest problems small businesses have is the rising cost of healthcare. That's hitting the corporate world and it is directly related to the "for-profit" health care system. If any of you out there are professionals with college degrees and would like to open your own practice or hang your own shingle, good luck. You are stuck working for a big corporation so you can get the "golden ticket" of group coverage. There is no freedom in that option!!! It is a very real problem and affects all classes. If you don't think you pay more for goods and services to cover the high cost of healthcare premiums that corporations pay for their employees, think about it again. All that extra cost to put money in the pockets of the insurance companies so they can hire people to review claims, deny coverage, and maximize profits.

We need a one-payer system and we need it now.

Wait time for chemo is about 4 weeks. Surgery ranges from about 1 - 2 months. I'm sure though that if you are in serious condition, they will take you faster. You think because it's run by the government that people are basically numbers...waiting in line for procedures? You gotta remember, we are treated by the doctors first, and each case can vary based on the doctors discretion. When i was sick...quite a few years ago....it took me 2 hours to get a bed. If you have advanced cancer that needs treatment promptly, then you will get it. Of course there are slip ups in the system, as there are all systems. I dunno. I wouldn't change Canada for the world, and or health system.

My mom waited about 2-3 weeks for surgery to remove precancerous stuff from her ovaries.
My great aunt got in right away when they found pancratic cancer. I think she started treatment the day after.
