I can totally understand about this one. A couple of years ago, our daughter was only 12 months old and my aunty, uncle and cousins were visiting my mum and dad's house one Christmas. I took the kids round to visit and noticed that my aunty had a streaming cold. I was fuming! I said to my mum 'why didn't you mention to me she had a cold' and she replied 'I forgot'. Seconds later, we left the house. I was made to feel like a freak. Didn't speak to my mum for the rest of the day. She finally apologised and said maybe I should apologise to my aunty for leaving - I said no way.Crazy.

Maybe because I have been around HIV patients (close, personal and business) that I dont see why you were quite so upset. They might not have thought anything of it from an HIV/AIDS standpoint, BUT I do agree that since she is potentially in a compromised health catergory that she might have bugs that could be a problem with CF. IF that is what you are concerned about then I would address THAT factor of not knowing with your in laws.

It is difficult for people to grasp now a "innocent" situation could jeopardize a CFers health no matter how "healthy" we appear to be. NOW if you are freaking just because she is HIV then I think you need to take a breath.

Would you feel the same about a Cancer patient? They could have compromised systems allowing a bug thats a problem for us to be with them.

I am trying to understand yet I think I am missing it.

My MIL's response was "Oh, my mistake". What she doesn't understand is her mistake couldn't have caused great harm to Alayna.

While I don't share the love for freaking out over other sick people, this is a good point. If you're just worried about the HIV, then I disagree with your reaction. If you're worried about what bugs she might have, having a compromised system (and would also worry about someone post-tx or with cancer or whatever), then it's still not something I would do... but I'd understand if you would.
