What does your child culture?

Hi,
Porter cultures staphylococcus aureus MSSA. That is all that it says on the paper. He has been on one course of Keflex when he had symptoms, still cultured it the next time. He is now on Bactrum for a sinus infection. He is not only culturing staph, but H Flu and something else (hopefully we will know tomorrow).

Jada,

Sometimes my girls culture 'just' Staph, and sometimes it is MRSA. Sometimes they culture both at the same time. They are two different things.

MRSA is more difficult to get rid of because it is resistant to more antibiotics. My older daughter cultured MRSA even after a two week round of IV vancomycin, but after a two week run of oral Zyvox, it has not shown up in her cultures.

My younger daughter has never been on IVs or oral Zyvox, and her MRSA did not show up in her last culture.

I hope Zoe is feeling better

I had Staph in my lungs when i was young and was put on an continous antibiotic Flucloxacilline and that really helped. I've never had it again. Treating Staph with this is really common here in Europe, i read it on an English forum all the time. Wonder why they don't treat it in the US? Or do they? Cause there are so many kids with it...

Luckily MRSA is not common here in the Netherlands. I think when it is found on a ward they close that ward. And people who for instance come from pig farms for instance have to say that in advance and i think the hospital will keep them seperated from everyone.
