Your FEV1 and pregnancy

I had a twin pregnancy. I was 28 years old at the time (in 2004) Here's my FEV1 stats:

pre-pg: mid 50's
by 20 weeks: 47% - and I felt TERRIBLE, I started inhaled Aztreonam 30 days on, 30 days off for the rest of my pg
end of pg (38 weeks): mid 60's! Higher than any PFTs I'd had in years!
post pg: 45-47% for the last two years, lower when I have an infection.

As far as weight goes. I was 5'4" and 112lbs pre-pregnancy (BMI 19.2) I gained 30 lbs during my twin pregnancy. 5 days after birth I lost 35 lbs. I have stayed near there the last two and a half years at 108 lbs (give or take 5 lbs when I'm sick or healthier)

Hope this helps!

This is my first time to get on this forum thing. My sister found this website for me. I'm 24 years old and pregnant for the first time. I'm not married, our wedding is planned for next March. We are doing like the celebrities, you know having the child first then getting married...lol.
FEV1
pre-preg: 79%
12 weeks: 76%
I'll be going back at 16 weeks to see my CF specialist because my OB isn't considering me high risk. Were any of you guys considered high risk?
I'm 5 foot 1/2 inch and weighed 118 before pregnancy, no weight problem here.

Yes, I was considered high risk, due to my cf, but also, I believe it had a little to do with our infertility problems . I think at my clinic, if you have cf, you are considered high risk just based on that...

Welcome hbollotte! You say no weight issues. How has your weight gain been so far and what is your pregnancy weight gain goal?

I am considered high risk after being referred to a hr OB clinic by my cf center. I believe they consider all their cf'ers high risk in order to encourage the baby to stay in the womb as long as possible and have normal fetal birth weights. It's a simple request since I go to a cf clinic in a big city and there are many great medical options within walking distance. If I were to do this again, I would probably try to have the high risk title removed given how uneventful and "normal" this pregnancy has been. I'm glad that I've had the care I have though and am glad I've had the "extra" care the first time around.

my ob has no experience with cf. when my nurse asked to sign the paper for cf carrier testing i told her there was no need since i had cf. since my ob isn't considering me high risk i just see my cf specialist once a month also. hopefully i won't have any complications. if my fiance's test comes back as a postitive carrier i will have an amnio preformed for preventative care for the baby if it tests positive for cf. we just have to pray for the best!!!!

I think it's best that you are not considered high risk. The high risk doctors I'm working with seem obsessed with IUGR. This means more tests which could lead to more interventions. As they say the baby in a matter of a few more weeks would do just fine outside my uterus - ugh! I remind them that a c-section could be very hard on me which they realize and say they want to avoid but I question that what they preach isn't what they practice.

I am having to fight to not follow the pace that they would like me to do with various testing...in particular needless ultrasounds. If I pursue pregnancy again, given that my labor & delivery is as breezy as the pregnancy has been, I will opt for a non high risk following. I figure with a track record of one great pregnancy ((knocks on wood that everything goes just fine in these last 4-8 weeks)) a regular OB wouldn't be scared to take me on.

Oh and just to let you know your FEV1 drop at 12 weeks isn't due to the baby restricting your airflow as I don't believe that happens until month 4-5. I'd work on trying to kick that back up. Don't assume you'll have a little bit of a lose during pregnancy. Have you changed your routine? Less treatments or less exercise. Try to maintain the routine you did pre-pregnancy if at all possible. You are at the point now things should start to be easier if you had a bit of a rough 1st trimester. I hope you don't mind me giving you unsolicated advice We take care of eachother on here like family - welcome!
