PLEASE HELP ME :(

Jennifer, What a pretty name! Coincidentally, Alanna was one of the names in the running for me by my parents, but in the end, they went with Colleen (I'm called "Coll"). My mom and I still love that name, it just didn't flow with our last name. One thing I didn't mention that somehow stands...

    Air Supply in the house

A/C is so important. In the summer, it's a godsend, especially on those humid days that just make me seem so much more mucus-y and congested. I'm not sure about heating units. I do know that the smell some gas fireplaces give off makes my throat irritated (I don't know if this is CF or my...

    PLEASE HELP ME :(

Hi Jennifer, Everyone is right, you have come to the right place. It is really a good thing you learned about your little girl's CF so early in her life. Treatment can begin right away, which is really important-- for her health, and also for her happiness/comfort. A baby without enzymes who...

Having birds for pets (good or bad)

I don't think birds in themselves are a problem; I know that their poop can be. It can 'dry' and become dust, which is not good to inhale. If you are very diligent in cleaning their poop, I don't think they'd be a problem. Maybe ask your CF doc?

    Flying (as in airplanes)

Just a question... are saturation levels measured differently in the UK? A level of 12 would be considered awful here. Good is like... in the 90s in the US, so I hope UK has a different measuring system.

    my strangest question yet!

I would definitely trade in CF for something (I'll get to what later LOL) if I could. I think CF has made me a very strong person, and a good person, but I can't erase the fact that at almost 16, by CF standards, I am practically middle aged. I wouldn't mind being deaf (but I do LOVE music). I...

    Oscars...

I like the Oscars, but I hate when one movie dominates. I have my own list of MY best picture nominees, and very few of them are on the actual nominee list. On another note, I'm very annoyed/mad tonight because, for whatever reason, ABC is coming in en espanol on my TV. It's the ONLY channel...

What to eat to gain weight

Quote

As CFers we should just eat a bit more and be wiser to overcome our weight dilemma.

If only it was that easy for me. I do agree with you that preservatives and overly processed foods are bad for you. I avoid preservatives if I can, and when I do eat...

    This is stupid...and I may sound like a know-it-all

Actually, my genius self didn't realize that was what "Remember my username" meant. I thought it just remembered your password when you clicked on log-in or something. Oh, also, my curiousity has piqued and I want to know where in NJ you are! North or South? Did you rgow up here, or just go to...

    Treatment Procedural Question (Pulmozyme)

Quote

Why the sidestream for the pulmozyme? Does it deliver the pulmozyme better? Just curious. I use the pari ones for alb/pulmicort, pulmozyme and TOBI. We use 3 diff. cups. We mark one with a T, one with a P and leave the other unmarked. Thanks! Jo Ann

...

    picc line/tune up questions

Hi JoAnn, I just wanted to clarify that I wasn't implying you were dishonest with Jason, sorry if it came off that way. It is a bit harder to explain to him how this will make him feel better if he feels alright right now anyway! Good luck-- and I understand what you mean about how it gets...

    nose question

Semi-random-- is Reglan (spelling?) not used for reflux anymore? When I was a baby, it was the only thing that stopped my awful reflux (my mom had to change shirts after every feeding- anything that went down came back up!). Does anyone use Reglan anymore?

    Meconium Ileus

Hi Laura. Is it confirmed that your second daughter has CF? I wasn't sure of that when I read your post. Here in the US, 10% of CF babies are born with meconium ileus. However, once you have had one baby with meconium ileus, the likelihood of your second CF baby having meconium ileus rises to...

    nose question

Ask your doctor about humidifiers. If it is really dry in your house, and you are VERY diligent about cleaning the humidifier, he/she may think it is a good idea. Do you have a humidity monitor in your house? The ideal humidity is between 30%-50% (that's what I've been told). I think throwing...
