Blood streaked mucus and chest pain

If your daughter is treated with oral antibiotics, I'd call and explain she's got increased cough and blood, but feels good still, and can we have antibiotics on deck for if she starts to feel worse? In my case, those symptoms could still go either way--better or worse. But if I didn't get...

    C section v natural birth

Duh...I think I figured it out: The Obamacare thread and its F-bombs. I do prefer the **** to posts or entire threads being deleted.

    C section v natural birth

LL, I'm guessing that parents with internet controls were having trouble accessing the site? I don't know because I have that set-up at home, too, but with no issue. Maybe there are tiers of blocking. I'd read the bacterial biome studies also. Very interesting stuff. I agree that c-sections...

    C section v natural birth

yeah, I felt like quite the perv when I saw my words bleeped out. :o I purposefully don't use the term "natural birth" vs. c-section because I've had friends who had c-sections who were offended at the implication that their children came into the world unnaturally. Plus, some people take...

    Exercise program at school

I'm curious if you have spoken with a lawyer. I think you would have to prove that your son is only able to exercise during school hours, and it seems like that wouldn't be provable.

    Lung bacterias

MAC/MAI - can be slow/indolent or can be more problematic M. Abscessus - often more pathogenic Some additional bacteria are: Streptoccocus pneumoniae Achromobacter xylosoxidans This is an interesting article on CF bacteria with pie charts and graphs. It's pretty technical, but I believe you...

    Problems getting back in shape

I know a lot of people benefit from running/treadmills/elliptical. But I personally get discouraged by the feeling that my progress is so quantifiable and only on two parameters--speed and duration. In contrast, if I am coming off being sick--and clearly, I know I've lost ground...

    genetic chimerism

Reading LL's great response in the thread: http://forum.cysticfibrosis.com/threads/69580-New-to-CF-world-looking-for-diagnosis made me remember an article I'd read last May about genetic chimerism--how we may not be as strictly a combination of our two biological parents' genetics. There are...

    Bacterial intestinal overgrowth

Justinsmama, Oh man, you have a lot to manage foodwise. National Jewish hospital is in the vanguard of food allergies, but do they research the stuff Justin has? (Maybe you've already been there.) Interesting what you mention about the yogurt and chex. I've made similar observation about dried...

    Bacterial intestinal overgrowth

On the off chance that this is not CF-related, my issue is that if I eat sugars that I can't digest in the small intestine, they go to the large intestine and feed the bacteria. End result gas and bloating for days after major diarrhea. The sugar I have an issue with is sorbitol. Does he...

    Night Sweats

Lost my first post so this is extra short. :) Circadian rhythms, immune system rampup and rest cycle, smaller-scale infections from refluxed bacteria in lungs. Low grade fever breaking. Some hormone influence too. More night sweats before period. Hope that makes some sense.

    Bad tasting oral antibiotics....

This thread made me remember hiding in my basement as a kid, and my mom coming at me with an enormous glass of antibiotic nasty'd OJ.

    Keep getting sick

I assume you'd get a referral to a pyschiatrist from the clinic, and insurance still won't cover? Usually the issue is insurance not paying for, or only paying for limited, pyschologist / talk therapy visits. Pyschiatrist and meds are often the easy thing to get covered. Definitely ask your...

How can I safely lose 10 lb?

You have high lung function and low exacerbation rate, right? And have had no major exacerbations during this few months you're talking about? If all that is true, you need to be taking your workouts to another level--bit by bit, but bigger harder working bits. You should be finishing sweaty...

    maybe hyperventalating while running

This sounds like a panic attack to me. I can't say that with 100% certainty but the worry over her initial SOB after running and the feeling that she is different from her peers probably triggered it. The tingly fingers and lightheadedness are classic. Over time she can begin to recognize that...

    get rid of bronchitis

You can probably appreciate this scenario. I was hosting an extracurricular activity recently and one of the kids (over 10 yrs old--not a toddler) spent the 1.5 hrs sniffling, wiping his nose and licking his hands and fingers. That is not a typo. Licking! I told him to wash his hands twice...

    anyone have problem with blockagae?

Matt, I've never had a fungus ball, just have heard of them here. People with aspergillus, I think. Bloodwork for the antibodies or sputum cultures (I can't remember if you said you had those) would show that if you have it. My CT scans show nodules that are likely "mucoid impactions." Sounds...

    anyone have problem with blockagae?

Bronchoscopies are great for a lot of different indications, but they have their own risks--infection and bleeding being the highest. As with all the meds and procedures, the benefits have to outweigh the risks. Hardcore chest percussion, postural drainage, inhaled mucolytics, IV abs ARE...

    C section v natural birth

I would get a second opinion. I have non-CF bronchiectasis, so take my experience with a grain of salt, but that seems odd especially for someone who has already delivered vaginally. If all else is equal (that is, of course, a big "if"), subsequent vaginal deliveries are much easier than the...
