I ruined a set of sheets once. Picture this - I'm half asleep, its about 4 in the morning, and my bf at the time and I have just moved in together, and he's slowly learning about my CF. He at the time was at work, but in my sleep I had let one pass thinking it was simply gas. Not the case. I had to wash the sheets and make the bed before he got home at 6:30am. I never told him what had happened to the sheets. I don't even think he noticed them missing either.

Anyone else wondering why some of us have this issue while some do not? I have been on enzymes since I was 2 weeks old...and I usually side on the high end of dosage, to avoid stomach issues and the things ya'll are describing. I take Creon 10's...like 10-15 per meal. Is there a reason why some of you aren't willing to try a higher amount of enzymes? I couldn't imagine excepting "sharts" as a part of my daily life! <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

(For those of you unfamilar with the term..."shart" is a combination of a sh#t and a fart...which i think most of you are describing)

Very simple. No one's CF is the same. And some people have a lot better pancreatic sufficiency than others. If you take enzymes and they work 100%, then for whatever reason, you're just having an easier time with that. Some people can take enzymes, and if their pancreatic insufficiency really sucks, it may leave them better off than if there were no enzymes at all... but still not good.

I hate it when that stuff happens..it almost happened in a public restroom once and i thought i was gonna cry ....its happened at home and all i could do is cry. Im so afraid that something like that would happen if i was sleeping next to my fiance' how would i explain something like that.

Well Vampy - hope that you have a open relationship were you can talk to your partner about this, and not worry about whether they would be disgusted or not. I've never had it happen to me while with someone, but I know that I would be embarrased telling them that it just happened in bed with them.

My fiance was the first boyfriend I truely explained this too. Before him, I was just too embarassed. And all he really knows is that sometimes I have "accidents" on occassion. I'm okay for the most part, but sometimes when I start to cough really really hard, for long periods of time, it pushes the fart out.... I can't stop it. That's when I've had most of my "blowouts". Because I'm in the middle of coughing, it's harder to keep in, and it's harder for me to get to the bathroom. The worst is when I'm away from home. And I have a horrible fear that someday I'm going to use a friends bathroom, and they'll be one of those people who has a "particular" toliet. You know, the kind that there's a trick to flushing it, or it stops up easy? I also won't sleep in the bed nude. I insist on wearing at least underoos at all times. I need at least one layer of protection "just in case".
A great way to help prevent a little of the toliet residue at home.... bleach tablets. It doesn't stop the problem, just helps make it not as bad.

I'm so relieved to see this talked about in such a humorous manner.... I may even show it to my fiance to better explain to him what I go through. It's been this HUGE source of embarassment my entire life. At the moment, I'm feeling just a little less bad.... thank you for that.
