Contraception

I use the pill and it is great for me. I am usually on antibiotics twice a year so it's not a huge deal to either abstain or use condoms at those times.

I do have to take a high dosage pill to stop breakthrough bleeding (and probably help absorption?) but as long as I do, I seem to have absolutely no problems.

Which antibiotics do your doctors tell you may interfere with the pill's effectiveness? Oral? IV? which ones?
Emma's comment raises the questoin of absorption - Has anyone been that there might be a problem in CF with absorbing the pill in the intestines because of digestion issues?

My dtr started with b/c pills at an early age due to heavy periods and severe cramping. Then we found out that she also has Factor V Leiden which is a hyperclotting disorder. Her MD put her on the Depo-Provera shots but she was still having troubles maintaining her weight. Her gyn was all over that and had her take the shots every month. When she reached her ideal weight, we then backed off to every other month. That is her current regime and she maintains her weight very well. Although she is not sexually active, she really enjoys not having the monthly ordeal of having a period and really loves being able to stay at her ideal weight. She even can tell when it's time for her shot as her appetite starts decreasing.

Good luck!!

Like Seana, I do not have CF, but wanted to put in my 2cents worth.

I was on the depo shot before my first son was born and then took one shot after he was born. My husband and I tried for more than a year to get pregnant with our second because of the effects of the shot.

Even though we most likely will not have anymore children, I vowed never to go back on the shot. I am now on Implanon, the thing that goes into your arm. It stays there for 3 years, no maintenance what-so-ever and I haven't had a period since I've had it (it has the same kind of hormones as the depo has and I never had one with it, either)

SO, I'm not sure if there are any risks to CFers for the Implanon, but I am loving it!
