Maybe your doctor is trying to use reverse pyscology. Tell you that you can't do something then see if you will prove them wrong. But no this isnt something I hear on a regular bases from my doctor. I think we have all gotten the "you'll only live to be..." speech at some point. It's what you do with that is what matters...either you listen, give up & say they are right or try your best to prove them wrong. On the first meeting with my adult CF Dr he told me I will need a transplant in 5 years, assuming he is right and I am wrong (I told him I wouldnt) and he is usually right. Needless to say, it pissed me off & upset my parents due to his assumptions without knowning anything about me other than "hello" & one round of PFTs. It's going on 7yrs now and I am not on O2 or on the Transplant list *knock on wood* (dont want to jinx myself here). I have been dancing on the edge for the last 7 yrs, but I'm holding strong. He hasn't said anything about it since. He has however said that he's been impressed with me as a person, my commitment to my treatments (which hasnt changed since childhood) & my knowledge in my disease & care.
I am the kind of person that if you tell me I cant or wont do something...more likely than not, I'm gonna prove the person wrong. Maybe your doctor thinks you are that kind of person too. If you are stuck & cant transfer, then when he says that to you, don't get upset & just tell him "we'll see" and leave it at that.
