I do not have a MedAlert bracelet.
I do have a typed up paper that is in my wallet in the picture holder, right in front of my insurance cards and on top, so as soon as you open my wallet, you see it. I put a medical alert symbol on it along with red bold letters that says Alert Medical Information and a summary of what it contains. On that paper it list all my medicine (name, dose, regimen), my name, surgeries (including blood type), all medical diagnosis (including hypoglycemic prone and the fact I wear contacts), Doctor's name and phone (which one is my local and CF Dr also indicated), Emergency contacts (numbers, names, and relation), Allergies (as well as reactions), my primary pharmacy (since its a local, small and privately owned) contact, and the date in which the list was last updated. Also, I keep one in my glove compartment with my insurance and registration.
Whenever I go to a doctor's office, I print this off and carry it to them (minus the medical symbol and red letters). That way I dont have to write or recall everything, I just hand it to them. All my doctor's really like it and appreciate it. I also keep one by my bed. It came in really handy when I had a collasped lung and needed to be rushed to the ER. My DH grabbed it as we walked out of the house. When we got to the hospital, I couldnt say more than one word sentences (my purse was in the car until I became stable), DH handed it to the doctors...it saved time on so much talking (which I couldnt do) and questions so they could get to work on treating me.
I also have ICE contacts in my cell phone. My DH is first with his name - ICE...as well as my mom, brother, father with ICE behind it. My pharmacy has a medalert key chain that says, "See Wallet", I'm thinking of getting one of those. My wrist are so small that I would have trouble keeping a bracelet on (my wrist is around 4"). I would get the necklace, but I sometimes have trouble dealing with things around my neck, it will feel like I'm choking.
