The New Lung Transplant Guy

Heres something else to ponder.
Parents who have another child knowing there is a risk of that child having CF, and that child needing a lung transplant later in life. Of course the child has no control over this but the parents are effectively doing what a smoker is doing, playing with fire.
I hope that comes across

I smoked for 23 years, and when I started smoking at that age you dont care what happens or can happen to you when you are much older. It was only when I was in my late 20's that I considered what I was doing was very stupid, did I quit? no. Only after Craig was born did i make an attempt to quit, It took me over a yearto do so.
I should say I'm with you guys on this, CF transplant first, then the rest can fight it out amongst themselves.

I don't really agree with this at all. I understand why people would be angry but how can we figure out who is "worthy" of a transplant. Like someone else said, ok so the CFer should get them first, so then we have to go down the line of CFers and rate how well they do their medicine, workout, and everything else and then give the lungs to that person. That is riduculous!

Also, what if someone was a smoker and tried to quit many times but could not? They just didn't have that much self control? I am not going to hold it against them if they really tried. Also, my mom is a recovering alcoholic, and if she needed a liver I would hope she would get one. Keep in mind alcoholism is a disease and no matter how hard my mom tries she still falls off the wagon sometimes.

In the end, I feel it is impossible to judge anyone who gets lungs especially if we don't know them
