    Sterilizing with baby bottle sterilizer

I have the same brand, although mine appears to be an older model. I've used it for several years, and it works great. I have a great set up for treatments and all my equipment, with everything in one place. As I do my nebs, I wash each one and place it on the sterilizer tray thing. That...

    Port needle issues..

Jen, I've used both without any trouble. The home infusion place only has .5, so that's what they always send me. The nurses at the clinic where I generally have it flushed or accessed for IVs have .75 and like those better. The hospital has both. It doesn't seem to make any difference for...

Church PreSchool refusing to give enzymes!

Thank you! It's wise when quoting the Constitution to know what it actually says!

    Flying with vest

What a great idea! Once I was going through security with my vest when a lady working there said, "Hey! Is that an airway clearance device?" It was quite shocking since usually they are all asking me what on earth it is. At my surprised response, she said, "I recently read a book about a...

Church PreSchool refusing to give enzymes!

Church schools don't accept any federal funds. That's kind of the point--we don't want the government running our schools. That shouldn't have any bearing on a situation like this, though. The issue with disabilities is that most church schools are simply not equipped or staffed to deal with...

PICC Dressing Changed... Now site hurts

It sounds to me like it's probably just annoyed from being messed with. My PICC line sites often used to hurt a bit after dressing changes. If it continues, though, it wouldn't hurt to call. It's always better to err on the side of caution with central lines.

    Mrsa

I would definitely worry about that! Then again, there's really nothing to do about it if he has already been exposed except to wait and see if it shows up in a culture, so perhaps that's why they are telling you that. Can you take steps to avoid his being exposed to it at this point?

    Vesting with stomach bug?

I would say that's normal. I've had to skip mine occasionally with stomach pain or severe nausea. It just doesn't work out well :)

    Flying with vest

I fly with mine at least a couple of times a year and have never had much trouble. I do carry a note from my doctor but have only actually had to produce it once, and that was for an international flight. I think the rules may be different internationally, and they gave me quite a hard time...

Church PreSchool refusing to give enzymes!

I'm so sorry to hear you're having this problem. How frustrating! I teach at a Christian School myself, and we have to handle all kinds of medications for the students. It's hard to understand why it would be an issue. My impression (though obviously I'm working with limited information...

    PICC Cover Issues-- Very complex

With my first couple of PICC lines, I tried all kinds of covers as well. What worked best for me in the end was a stretched out sock with the toe cut out. I couldn't stand to have anything tight against it, so nothing else would work. It was either too tight to be comfortable, or the line...

When does your port stop hurting?

The surgeon who placed mine also told me I probably wouldn't need pain meds other than maybe the first day. My conclusion was that she has probably never had one placed. I definitely needed the pain meds for several days. They had trouble making a pocket for mine, so it took longer than...

    Nursery Sterilizer

Heather, I do have a nursery sanitizer, but last time someone asked about it, it looked like they are no longer sold. Sometimes you see them on ebay, but I wouldn't buy one that had been previously used. Actually, I just use the nursery sanitizer to help dry my nebs. For sterilizing, I use...

    tobi pod inhaler

Sorry--apparently, I don't know how to work the quote thing. TOBI nebs shouldn't be taking this long. Are you using the correct nebulizer? Only certain ones are approved for use with TOBI. If you're using the correct nebulizer, I would say there's a problem with your compressor. It should...

    Sputum culture results

Most likely because it's not done yet. You should eventually get it. It just means the lab hasn't figured out the exact bacteria yet. The gram-positive one is most likely the staph aureus you normally culture.

    Sputum culture results

Yes, it's not complete. They sometimes call me with such a report because it does indicate there's bacteria, but they haven't identified them yet. For me, the gram positive ones are typically MRSA and the gram negative ones pseudomonas. If you know what bacteria you usually grow, you can...
