    CF, marriage and depression

As you can see I have gone past both 35 and a 32 FEV so maybe I can be of some help. You need to be open w/ your family when you can and let them know how you are feeeling. You also need to do everything that you can to keep FEV from getting below 30. I can tell you from experience that things...

    Need perspective

This is a decision that you have to make for yourself, but my feeling is that with the number of healthy children in the world today who are looking for a loving home it seems a little, or maybe a lot, selfish to choose to bring another sick child into the world. That is just my opinion and I...

    Trying to rid PA!

I was raised on a very low fat diet. As lilmac7 said it was really the only option before enzxmes were avaliable. Yes I have always been thin but I was pretty healthy for a CFr. After my first trip to the hospital I wasn't hospitalized again for almost 20 years.

HELP! My 10yr old is refusing to do airway clearance

I don't have kids and when I was that age there were no Vests but I ran, climbed trees, rode horses, fed horses, made forts in the loft. If it was my kid I would give them a choice, run a mile or use the vest. Not much difference in the end I don't think. Get him in the habit of getting exercise...

    Not Feeling Better

I'm going to put in my 2 cents worth and I hope I don't step on too many toes. It is impossible to imagine that the repeated use of very strong anti-biotics wouldn't have dramatic and often terrible effects on your body. Whether it is absolutely necessary or not is something that has been argued...

    What year were you diagnosed?

I know there are older people in this group, I'm one of them. At least in this group I can say I'm pretty old. But I would like to hear the stories of what treatments and advice was given to you when you were first diagnosed. I was diagnosed in 1963 after being in the hospital for the first time...

    Moving to a new climate...?

I am an over-the-road trucker and until the last couple years I went everywhere in the US. Now I stay mostly in the Midwest, but I can tell you the areas that bother ME. You might be completely different but might give you something to think about. Until FEV1 got below 35 or so altitude didn't...

Im starting pulmonary rehab!! Very stoked!..Time to raise my numbers!

Good for you!!! I have been walking and getting as much exercise as possible since I was in the hospital last year. Last visit didn't show any improvement in FEV1 but I FEEL BETTER !! and that has to be a good thing. My goal for now is to be able to say on most days,"I feel better than I did a...

    Zithromycin Mon wed and fri

I've been taking it for a few months now and it has had a possitive effect on me. Unlike most though I don't take any antibiotics on a regular basis. Dr had to convince me that bacteria couldn't build up a resistance in order to get me to take it. I also take Mucinex and Ibuprofen as a way to...

any parents out there dealing with CF adult children that have given up

I was your son, except for the fact that I grew up healthy enough to pass for a skinny guy with a smokers cough. When I was 7 I heard the doctor tell my parents that I would never live to be a teenager. Well I did live that long and another 45 and still going. There are things I could say that...

What do you wish you would have known?

2 things come to mind that would have made a big difference in my life. 1) Never stop exercising. I was dx at 7 yrs. so my case is different but exercise and diet are absolutely life or4 death for CFrs. I lived a fairly normal life until at 37 I started as an over-the-road truck driver and quit...

    Need your input

My advice is 3 things; 1) Exercise 2)EXERCISE 3)MORE EXERCISE. When I was diagnosed at 7 my parents bought 3 horses that were, for the most part, my responsibility. Whenever the weather permitted I was out of the house from morning until dinner time. I know that times have changed a lot but the...

    Can't keep up- exhausted

I take Creatine after I exercise. It seems to realy shorten recovery time and it helps w/ muscle weight gain. I don't know if you need to gain weight but it is a common problem w/ CFers.

Does the dust bother her? If it does then keep her out of it. Otherwise leave her alone and let her have a life.

    Weight

I couldn't gain weight for years and years until I started exercising again. I have gained about 5 lbs. in the last few months. Don't know if that will help you gain weight but I am sure that exercise would at least make you feel better.

Read this! Aggressive antibiotic treatments may not always be the best answer

The first time I was hospitalized w/ pneumonia in 1963 I was given a shot of pennicilin every 4 hours, I think, because that was all there was. When I got out the Dr. told my parents to keep me as active as possible and to think of antibiotics as a last resort because any bacteria not...
