Where are all the people with CF on this forum when you need support?!

I think Printer spoke up in this thread because you mentioned the distinction between people offering information and people offering emotional support, but I don't think he was aiming anything at you. As for the distinction between the two types of help (information vs. compassion), it's a...

Cbphone, I am so sorry for your loss, you have my heartfelt condolences. Believingjesus, I'm glad you reminded me that compassion and support are important.

New discovery -- new bedspread! GREAT for my CF and allergies

Even though I had 5 yrs of allergy shots two times in my almost forty years, I still have to watch out for dust (as well as strong odors, fumes, smoke). Some things you can do are regularly wash bedding, put your mattress and boxspring in plastic cases, have no carpet or large rugs in your...

coughing up streaks of blood and milk white mucus

Cam, I'm so glad you called in, got some meds and got an xray. Try to relax today and not think too much about the xray. (When I've had pneumonia, the xray clinic hasn't let me leave the building w/o talking to someone and getting meds. And the one time I was allowed to walk out with...

coughing up streaks of blood and milk white mucus

I think you should call your doctor. I saw from your other post that you aren't sure what to do--go to the hospital, call your doctor...etc. Your doctor will know what questions to ask you and what bacteria you harbor, what your baseline FEV1 is, how often you streak blood etc. Even if your...

    Doing the vest while inverted!?!

That's so funny. I also had done that stretch before ever taking a yoga class, but I was a gymnast as a kid, so I think I picked it up then since it is a bit of a precursor to a backward roll. It is definitely not for people with neck problems. Your stomachache position sounds like "child's...

    Doing the vest while inverted!?!

To vest upside down, I think you'd have to be not prone to reflux, or not have eaten for hours prior. Gravity is great, though. Postural drainage! I don't do yoga classes much, but I have a habit of stretching and doing the "plow pose" every day. (I had to look that up just now as I had no idea...

Share your tips to improve day-to-day life!

This is a great thread idea, so I want to bump it. I don't have advice on med organization and such--my "specialty" is food, keeping my weight up and my family healthy. I think there have been many food focused threads in the past, so here are just a few time saving tips. --buy vacuum-sealed...

How to frame question to figure out how lungs are feeling?

Glad I could help a bit. Lol at the dropping trow. I'm a huge sweat-er, so I can relate. And synthetic 'wicking' fabrics make me smell baaad. So I'm a tank-top exerciser 99.9% of the time. Thankfully my legs aren't an issue because I would not wear micro shorts in public. :) Good for your son...

How to frame question to figure out how lungs are feeling?

I think it's really hard to do truly scientific studies on your child or yourself because of the amount of variables that can come into play from day to day...but it's still worth a try imo. So, yes, I'm thinking that if the albuterol helps, then he may be reporting an exercise induced asthma...

How to frame question to figure out how lungs are feeling?

If you are trying to make sure he's not calling/thinking that asthma and post-exercise fatigue are the same, then maybe treat him with albuterol after exercise and ask him how he feels 15 min later. Then don't treat him after exercise and ask how he feels 15 min later (use your judgment on the...

    update from Scotland

What a wonderful update! Thanks for sharing. The adventure camp sounds like a great experience. I'm a rock climber and can remember the fear the first time I rappelled/abseiled, and the great feeling of overcoming the fear, of testing and trusting the gear.

Link between TB and diabetes in news

Unlikely Marriage Of Diseases: TB And Diabetes Form A 'Co-Epidemic' http://n.pr/1sL7Xnj I thought this was interesting, and it made me look into a link between CFRD and NTMs. And there is an association in the under 18 group according to this study. I thought this might be worth parents being...

    Could I have CF?

I think your doctors/you can fairly easily request a sweat test and genetic screening for the most common CF mutations. It's just that if either of those is inconclusive or negative that the further testing (full genetic sequencing) is more complicated to obtain. What I mean is that if your...

    Mucoid Pseudomonas

LL, Do you think Bronchitol (inhaled dry powder mannitol) has the same potential to combat pseudomonas/biofims? It's approved in Australia and the UK, but still in trials here, I think. http://www.cff.org/pipeline_mobile/details.cfm?id=29

    Shortness of breath...

A friend of mine had air in her diaphragm after abdominal surgery (tubal ligation), and she said it was painful. It eventually went away. I agree with others that you should contact your doctor, because with CF your situation is more complex.

mama - possible CF - Question

Justinsmama, I'm hoping you get your answers soon. I've been told that my "ground glass opacities" are inflammation. Of course, other markers on Ct Scan might also indicate inflammation, so this isn't necessarily what's on your scan. My inflammation is attributed to infection, but not...
