Your clinic

I haven't read all the responses - lunch is almost over haha!!

I don't usually get to chose with my clinic. They like you to go in for at least 5 days to get your PICC and be monitored. I am usually in 8-10 days before they will release me. My nurse told me they do this because when someone is really sick and in need of resting, when they are home they won't do it. They will do the dishes and laundry and clean and cook when they whould be resting to gain their strength back. Works for, less I have to do at home haha! But it does suck when you feel great and are chained to a room that is 10x10!!!

Oh and I WOULD NOT WAIT until the 12th to go to Vegas! If you need IVs now waiting a whole month will make you so much worse! Call your clinic and speak to the CF nurse and tell her you are sick and need to be seen. If they make you go to the ER that is ridiculous. Or talk to the nurse at the clinic in Vegas and see if she can get you in sooner too. The receptonists won't always pull for you. Especially if they see more than just CFers. The receptionists know me at my clinic now and if I call and ask for an appt sooner than the one I am scheduled for the will finigle things to get me in that day or the following week (clinic is once a week).

I have to wait 4 weeks to be seen.</end quote></div>

Now that's pure lunacy. I know I usually get inflicted with a bout of depression when I get a lung infection or anything having to do with CF, so if they said that to me they might as well give me a bottle of Banker's Club and a handgun; it'll be the same effect.

Are you guys serious about the hospital food thing? Because after the first few days, when the doctors have to get everyone involved to get their act together, the food is awesome. If you come in my room, it resembles the Last Supper. I get at least 2 pizzas brought up from the kitchen every meal, and a cafeteria pass that totals $10! Those doctors really are about fattening you up, but you have to open your mouth; if you keep quiet and don't say anything, they won't either. You can't rely on other people to help you, you have to take the first step in helping yourself.</end quote></div>

Believe me i am very serious about the food issue at the hospital.<b> I am not referring to the quantity of the food i am talking about the quality</b>. I have been in very few hospitals that actually had food that was good. I always get a large amount of food, but it isnt very desirable. At home i get whatever i want and know its gonna be good.

Diane, you have to speak up, voice your concern. But don't complain to the nurses, make sure you complain to your doctor- he is el hombre grande, he is the man in charge, calling the shots. My doctor is a little man, not an intimidating presense at the least, but when he speaks people listen. If he orders the cafeteria people to send up whatever you want, they will do it no questions asked. I have a hard time beleiving a hospital doesn't have the type of food you desire; unless you're a really picky person. The last time I was in my doctor told the nutrionist to come into my quarters and meet with me. I informed her that the food sucked and they fed me like a Pakistani shoe gluer. She gave me her personal cell number, called the cafteria in my presense, and told me if I don't get the proper food I want, to give her a ring and she'll solvent the problem. She gave me a special menu to fill out, and since I am a pizza buff, I ordered 1 slice of pizza and some type of meat, a calorie shake, and a desert ON TOP of what the normal hospital cafeteria sends to patients!
